Tenor, Jason Baldwin is gaining recognition throughout the US for his musical artistry and superb acting skills.  The 2008/2009 season has featured Mr. Baldwin performing the role of Don José for both Opera Theatre of the Rockies and Utah Festival Opera, with great acclaim. 

 

The Salt Lake City Tribune glowed, “Baldwin nailed his depiction of José…his emotional struggle between duty and infatuation was evident during the "Flower Song," where his fluid lyricism and delicate vocal bloom carried a pleading message to his indifferent lover.”

 

Past seasons have seen Mr. Baldwin on the stages of Utah Opera as Der Steuermann in Der Fliegende Holländer, Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette, Nick in La Fanciulla del West and Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Opera Colorado as Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Spoletta in Tosca, Pang in Turandot, Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos, Jacquino in Fidelio, and Adolfo Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, Opera Theatre of St. Louis as Meriwether Lewis in a world premiere of Dream of the Pacific, Opera Tampa as Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette, Asheville Lyric Opera as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Amarillo Opera as Rodolfo in La bohème, Emerald City Opera as Camille de Rosillion in The Merry Widow and Alfredo in La Traviata, and Opera Fort Collins as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly.

 

A passionate concert artist, Mr. Baldwin has performed many diverse works in recent seasons including a critically acclaimed performance of Britten’s War Requiem with Marin Alsop on the podium. 

 

The Rocky Mountain News raved, “There were many stars on this night… But the crucial, often demanding solo duties were handled wonderfully by tenor Jason Baldwin…”   

 

Other concert performances include: Beethoven 9th with Greeley Philharmonic and The Littleton Chorale, Opera’s Greatest Hits concerts with Colorado Symphony and Utah Symphony, Rossini Stabat Mater with the London Symphony Chorus, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light with the Colorado Symphony, the Messiah with the Utah Symphony, Littleton Symphony, and Boulder Philharmonic.  Additional solo appearances include performances of works by Bach, Shostakovich, Mozart and Beethoven with the Boulder Bach Festival, the Colorado Chamber Players, Boulder Philharmonic, Littleton Symphony, Sinfonia of the West, and Cherry Creek Chorale.

 

Mr. Baldwin earned a Master’s degree in vocal performance at the University of Colorado, after receiving his undergraduate degree in vocal performance from Mars Hill College, NC. He was a Studio Artist during Utah Symphony and Opera’s 2003-2004 Season, an Ensemble Artist at Opera Theatre St. Louis in 2003, and a Young Artist with Opera Colorado from 1999-2002.
